Hearst takes Teleco Cup opener vs. Kam River of SIJHL

OLIVER PAIPOONGE, Ont. – The Hearst Lumberjacks saw Tyler Patterson supply a pair of third period tallies to help them defeat the Kam River Fighting Walleye 5-3 Saturday night in Game 1 of the Teleco Cup series with the Kam River Fighting Walleye at Nor’West Arena, on the outskirts of Thunder Bay.

Mikaelb Blier also scored twice for Hearst while Mathieu Comeau supplied a single.

Finding the back of the net for the Walleye were Tie Scumacher, with two, and Max Wright.

Alex Boivin faced 37 shots in picking up the win for the Lumberjacks, who pumped 40 attempt on Kam River’s Mathew Stephens.

Game 2 of the Teleco Cup goes Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. back at Nor’West Arena before the series shifts to Claude Larose Recreation Centre in Hearst, Sept. 6-7.
