HEARST, Ont. – Getting three goals from Cameron Jansa, the French River Rapids went on to down the Hearst Lumberjacks 5-1 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up Saturday at Claude Larose Recreation Centre.
French River opened the scoring 2:48 into the proceedings when Daniil Grishachev sent a low knuckling puck past Hearst goaltender Owen Bonthuis.
Another from the Rapids saw Jansa chip a play off the side boards to himself, which allowed him to move in a sizzle a wrister from the left side.
The Lumberjacks got one back when Damien Bourdon-Lemoyne knocked in a backhand off a rebound from a Sam Taylor attempt from the right point.
However, French River came right back to put an early end to Bonthuis’ night, in favour of back-up Alexandre Boivin, after Alexandre Dubuc converted on an in-close deflection.
Jansa then added his second to put the guests up 4-1 after 20 minutes as he finished off a goal-mouth scramble at 19:06.
Neither side would convert in the second stanza as the Rapids carried their three-tally cushion into the third.
There, Jansa finished off his big night in the latter stages of the game as he raced down the ice and slid one into an empty net to cap off the road victory.
The win sees French River improve to 6-9-1-2 overall while the loss drops Hearst’s record to 13-5-0-1.
